1. Who We Are

Hippie Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Cheerly mobile application. We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. By using Cheerly you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Name and email address when you create an account
  • Profile preferences (spirit animal, world theme, personalization choices)
  • Content you create in the app — journal entries, goals, and progress notes

Information collected automatically:

  • Device identifiers, operating system, and app version
  • IP address and general location (country/region)
  • App usage patterns and feature interactions
  • Crash reports and performance diagnostics

Information from third parties:

  • If you sign in via Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information (name, email) from that provider
  • Subscription status from the Apple App Store or Google Play

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account
  • To deliver and personalise the Cheerly experience, including AI-generated stories and quests
  • To process and manage your subscription
  • To send service updates and, where you have opted in, marketing communications
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • To improve the app and our AI systems using anonymised, aggregated data
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. AI-Generated Content and Your Data

Cheerly uses AI to generate personalised stories, feedback, and in-app content based on your preferences and activity. Specifically:

  • Your preferences and anonymised activity may be used to personalise AI outputs
  • We do not use the content of your personal journal entries to train AI models without your explicit consent
  • AI-generated content is produced by third-party AI providers (e.g. OpenAI, Google) under data processing agreements that restrict their use of your data
  • You can request deletion of your data at any time — see Section 7

5. Third-Party Services

We share data with trusted providers who help us operate the app:

  • Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, crash reporting
  • Apple / Google — sign-in, subscription billing
  • AI providers — to generate personalised in-app content
  • Analytics tools — aggregated usage data to improve the app

We do not sell your personal information. Data shared with providers is limited to what is necessary for the service they perform.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your data within 90 days, except where retention is required by applicable law.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

EEA / UK residents (GDPR): You have additional rights including data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).

8. Children's Privacy

Cheerly is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Security

We implement technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit and at rest. No system is completely secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notice or email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
